Hey, A Record's A Record

So, the Mariners have been giving a fair number of at bats to utility man, Willie Bloomquist this season, despite him not being particularly good at the whole "baseball" thing. WFB, as he is sometimes called by the M's faithful, is hitting a Ruthian 256 / 366 / 256 this year. That's not a typo - his SLG is equal to his BA. Bloomquist doesn't have an extra-base hit this year; in fact, he hasn't had one in 81 straight games now. The other streaks he has going, and the records he's approaching, courtesy of a USSMariner commenter:
"081 - Consecutive games without an XBH
155 - Consecutive at bats without an XBH
177 - Consecutive PAs without an XBH
086 - 2008 season ABs with no XBH
101 - 2008 season PAs with no XBH

Unofficial records:

100 - Consecutive games without an XBH - Greg Gross
223 - Consecutive at bats without an XBH - Jose Valdivielso
266 - Consecutive PAs without an XBH - Larry Lintz
124 - Full season ABs with no XBH - Dwain Anderson
144 - Full season PAs with no XBH - Dwain Anderson"
This streak is made all the more funny because of the way it was kept intact. In the M's 83rd game of the year, Bloomquist came to the plate in the bottom of the ninth with a runner on second and the score tied. He proceeded to hit a ball into the gap (it would have been a sure double), but the runner scored before WFB reached second (thus winning the game) and Willie was only credited with a single. Gotta love those Mariners.
