Calling In The Reinforcements
Remember when I talked about the Orioles carrying 13 pitchers, and how I didn't think it was a great idea. Not only are they going with the 13 man staff, but instead of sending down the offensively anemic Brandon Fahey, they sent down Scott Moore, and called up Jim Johnson. Because of their double-header with Texas, the O's were going to need to start a pitcher on short rest on Monday (Trachsel or Loewen) or bring in Matt Albers from the pen to make the start. I suppose that either Johnson will make the start, or Albers will with Jim taking his longman spot. Garrett Olson, who had a good last start for Norfolk (6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K) and for whom Monday would be his regular turn in the rotation, was considered but not called up. Moore can't be brought back for 10 days, so either Johnson will be up for that long, or there will need to be more roster moves made. A big "Huh?" is my reaction here.
