McNair Calls It A Career

In a somewhat surprising move, Ravens' QB Steve McNair has announced his retirement. It isn't surprising because of the quality of his play (he was bad last year and definitely looked done), but because (as far as I know) he was still technically the starter at quarterback. That leaves the inconsistent (and not particularly good) Kyle Boller and the young (and also not particularly good) Troy Smith as the team's current options to take McNair's place. Unless there is a trade in the works, I don't think the Ravens have a great chance to get to the play-offs next year. If a QB is available in the draft at good value (they shouldn't over-reach just for position) then that's something they really should do. In any case, I'm glad that I won't have to watch a formerly great player suffering on the field. It was painful to see him under-throw guys on 8 yard patterns because he didn't have the arm-strength to get it to them. Thanks for 2006, and your attempts in 2007, Steve.
