A New Low In San Fransisco

This happened a couple of days ago, but it's still worth mentioning.

Say what you will about the Orioles, but I think it's a pretty good bet that they'd beat their AAA team. It is only one game, but when the San Fransisco Giants, behind Opening Day starter Barry Zito, lost to the Triple-A Fresno Grizzlies it was both embarrassing and kind of sad. The problem is that the Giants line-up isn't all that different from their AAA line-up, and it's a good bet that many of the minor leaguers will get at-bats for the Giants this year. I feel a little bad that the plight of the Giants makes me happy. Maybe it's their association with Barry Bonds; maybe it's their general manager and his fondness for giving large contracts to over-the-hill players; and maybe it's just nice to see a team that's in much worse shape than the O's (at least the Orioles have a farm system). I'm a big fan of Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain, but I still hope the Giants are really really bad in 2008. Perhaps that will give the media a new team to make fun of.
